It's important to understand that conflict-provoking communication is communication that doesn't work very well...that's it...and that we all use it. Learn to identify conflict provoking comments that are attempts to induce guilt. People tend to resist attempts by others to manipulate their emotions and feelings. Guilt-induction attempts are efforts to make some feel guilty or "less than", often an attempt to shame them into going along, or changing. While guilt induction attempts are usually subtle, make no mistake - the other person will know exactly what you are trying to do if you use them. It might even work now and again, but more than likely the person will mobilize their defences and fight back. Even if they ARE guilty.
