Some managers are respected, and some not. To a large extent managers succeed, and are able to create loyalty in their staff through the use of a set of very important skills. We call these skills "responsiveness" skills.
In a nutshell the responsive manager is seen as assisting employees to do their jobs, understanding the employees, and willing to do what is necessary to help them succeed. But there's more. Responsive managers (and hence effective leaders) communicate and act in ways that affirm that they believe in the value and worth of their employees.
This helpcard explains the basic elements of the "responsive manager".
